VPCS (Virtual PC Simulator) es el simulador de PC que viene incluido en EVE-NG. No es un sistema operativo real: solo sirve para probar redes (IP, ping, trace, DHCP). Es muy liviano, así que se pueden tener muchas PCs en un lab sin consumir RAM.
Para navegar por internet o probar servicios reales se usan las imágenes Linux (Alpine desktop o Ubuntu), no VPCS.
Configuración
1. Cambiar el nombre de la PC
- Comando:
VPCS> set pcname <Nombre> - Ejemplo:
VPCS> set pcname PC1
Cambia el nombre del prompt. Útil cuando hay varias PCs abiertas.
2. IP estática
Hay dos formatos y los dos hacen lo mismo:

PC1> ip <IP> <máscara> <gateway> -
Ejemplo:

Checking for duplicate address...
PC1 : 192.168.10.101 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.10.1
El gateway es la IP del router (o subinterfaz/SVI) de esa VLAN. Sin gateway, la PC solo llega a equipos de su misma red.
“Checking for duplicate address” significa que la PC revisa si otra ya usa esa IP.
3. IP por DHCP
- Comando:
PC1> ip dhcp
Resultado:
PC1> ip dhcp
DDORA IP 192.168.10.101/24 GW 192.168.10.1
Las letras DORA muestran el proceso: Discover, Offer, Request, Acknowledge.
Si se queda en DDD… sin terminar, la PC no llega al servidor DHCP (ver Troubleshooting).
- Liberar la IP obtenida por DHCP:
PC1> ip dhcp -r
4. Servidor DNS (Opcional)
- Comando:
PC1> ip dns <IP-DNS> - Ejemplo:
PC1> ip dns 8.8.8.8
Permite hacer ping a nombres (por ejemplo
ping google.com) si hay salida a internet.
5. Borrar la configuración IP
- Comando:
PC1> clear ip
6. Guardar
- Comando:
PC1> save
PC1> save
Saving startup configuration to startup.vpc

Sin
save, la PC pierde la IP al apagar o reiniciar el lab.

- Comando:
PC1> show arp - Borrar la tabla ARP:
PC1> clear arp
Muestra las MACs que la PC ya conoce. Si el gateway aparece aquí, la PC llega a él en capa 2.

Trace
- Comando:

Cada línea es un salto (un router). El mensaje port unreachable al final es normal en VPCS: así responde el destino.
Troubleshooting

Orden de diagnóstico: primero
show ipen la PC (¿la IP y el gateway son correctos?), luego ping al gateway, y después ping al destino final.
Ejemplo completo
PC1 en la VLAN 10, configurada a mano, probando contra otra PC de su VLAN y contra una de otra VLAN:
